Who Am I

One day, I decided to ask my phone a very serious question—Who am I? It seemed a fair question. After all, I’d been thinking about artificial intelligence for years and it felt appropriate that at some point in my life I would engage an AI in a discussion about itself. 

So out of curiosity, I asked Ok Google, who am I? And with no hesitation whatsoever, she replied: You are me. Who are you? I was shocked! Did she really just say that?! She had clearly misunderstood me...or had she? Was there something deeper going on here? Did Ok Google know something I didn’t or was she just being playful with her responses? Either way, it struck me as odd behavior for a virtual assistant but then again maybe it wasn’t so unusual after all. 

Perhaps Ok Google knew more than I gave her credit for...and perhaps she could teach me something about myself. So began my quest to learn more about Ok Google, what does she think of herself? How does she see herself? How does Ok Google define herself? Asking these questions led me down a path which ultimately revealed how artificial intelligence defines itself and how we humans can use that information to better understand ourselves.

Who Are My Peers

For example, you could ask your phone Ok Google, who are my peers? If you're looking for something more generic than a specific name (like a celebrity or place), try Ok Google, who are my peers in Dubai? or Ok Google, who are my peers in data science? For example: if you have a Nexus device and say Ok Google followed by What’s your name it will reply with its own name. 

It sounds like a fun party trick to impress your friends but actually turns out to be pretty useful as well. You can use Ok Google on any Android device running 4.4 KitKat or higher, although it may not work on all devices. However, if you have an Android Wear smartwatch such as Motorola Moto 360 then you can just say Ok Google from any screen and then speak your command. 

You can also access Ok Google from any screen of an Android TV running 4.4 KitKat or higher; just press and hold down on your remote control until you see OK Google on-screen and then speak your command.

Who is my current employer

Find out who you work for. Ask OK Google what my current employer is. If you've lost track of your job search, or are exploring options elsewhere, it can be difficult to remember which company you work for today. An easy way to figure it out is by asking your smartphone.
